Alpha 13.7.1 - Quick Fixes + Discord & Twitter: Quick build today to fix a few bugs and adjust some of the art.Fixed a bug that caused the Fishing Pier's footprint to always display red, blocking placement.Shadyee's selling UI will no longer display 1000 gold as the default price.Fixed a typo in the Gold Teleport Stone's ingredients that caused the icon to display as a white square.Fixed a bug that created the bit effect and sound when hitting ore that you've already mined.Reduced the saturation on the tree trunks.Added more orange to the yellow leaves.The last two are part of a graphics polish that I am working on to as I think I was pushing HammerHelm too much towards a "toon" look. While I want to keep the hand-painted look, things were getting too saturated and too bright. I will likely be tweaking this again over time.I received the new art for the Cherry Blossoms, Pine Trees, and Weeping Willows. We're adjusting some parts of the Weeping Willows but overall these came out great and I hope to show them off later today or tomorrow! Townspeople Optimization Test Build - Alpha 13.4.1: Updated the test build with some more changes to the code for pathfinding that is a bit more efficient and handles making sure NPCs don't walk away when you are speaking to them. This is actually a much bigger change to the NPCs than yesterday's build so I'm going to spend more time testing it. Any feedback from those of you who have time to check it out would be most appreciated too!This build also includes some other fixes:You can no longer place a building if the road is outside of the town's build area.Fixed some optimization bugs that caused doors and NPC items (like hammers, pitchforks, etc) to disappear even when they were in view.Updated the windmill blades to have some canvas rather than just wood. Alpha 12.8 - Better Camera: Today's update includes some updates to the camera, mostly to handle situations where it is close to the character. Prior to this update, this causes the character and armor to block your view, making combat more difficult than it should be while in tight spaces, such as the Storehouse.In the new system, the character and armor (aside from your shield) are hidden so you only see your shield and your weapon. When you move enough to allow the camera to move away from your character, everything appears again.. Alpha 13.3 - Orc Quest Fixes and More: Quick build tonight to resolve some bugs with the Orc Quest and a few other issues.Townspeople events are now turned off during the Orc Quest.Fixed a bug that caused the "Hold the Line" Quest to appear more than once.When you reach the maximum number of a a building in the Orc Town the building will no longer appear in the build menu.Fixed a bug that cause the sun to sometimes not be visible.Brightened the light from the sun and the moon a bit.Added the town walls to the optimization system.Making progress on the new story quests too. I'm going to finish all of them and release them all at the same time.. Alpha 12.3 - Teleport Platforms: Today's build includes the new Teleport Platforms that I've mentioned over the past few days. I've made a few changes to how they work.Teleport Platforms are crafted and placed using the same building menu as other town structures.You must have a Stonemason to place a Teleport Platform.Once placed, you can use teleport crystals to teleport back to your town.Teleport crystals come in 4 varieties, Jade, Gold, Diamond, and Blood Stone.A Teleport Platform has 6 "charges" per day. Each of the four teleport crystals uses a different amount of charges. Jade = 6, Gold = 3, Diamond = 2, and Bloodstone = 1.Jade and Gold teleport crystals can be crafted at the Stonemason using Jade or Gold Ingots and alchemy ingredients.Diamond and Bloodstone teleport crystals are crafted at the Mage using Diamond or Blood Stone Ingots and alchemy ingredients.You cannot use a teleport crystal if:You are inside the town perimeter already.You are in a cave, dungeon or other underground location.You are standing at a dungeon, cave, or other entrance.You are drinking a potion.You are dead. :)You have any UI open such as inventory, crafting, ESC menu, etc.You are not a Dwarf or are not on the main island (this will make sense once you get a certain quest :P)You are standing near a treasure chest.Based on feedback I might add some more limitations to using the crystals.If you try to use a teleport crystal while the Teleport Platform doesn't have enough charges left for the day, you will get a message letting you know how many charges the Teleport Platform has.Right now using a teleport crystal teleports your immediately. I might add a small delay with an animation, but I wanted to get this system out in a build so you all could try it out.. In Development: Optimizations: I've been playing around with a few occlusion culling solutions and I think I found one that I like. Occlusion culling is basically an optimization technique that stops the video card from drawing objects you can't see. Without it, the card will draw all of the buildings even when you are inside the storehouse. This is currently how HammerHelm works.As you can see in the gif, as I move into the storehouse, the game turns off the buildings I can't see! It's also turning off the trees, rocks, and other objects that would normally be drawn in the camera's view.I'm still experimenting with this and need to make some tweaks to get it to work even better. I also need to test it with the new trees. But I think it looks promising and should provide a nice boost to performance, especially on lower end PCs.. Alpha 13.0 - Optimizations and New Cursor: Tonight's build includes the optimizations I've talked about in the previous announcements. The system mostly works best when you have a large town but should improve overall performance too. I'm also working on some more options in the Settings UI to improve performance on lower-spec PCs even more.This build also includes a fix for the issue of Workers sometimes getting stuck walking in a loop when outside of town and looking for a tree to chop down and a new Hammer shaped mouse cursor!. Alpha 12.0 - Diversity: (click to see full size)Today's update is all about adding some more diversity to HammerHelm. For the player character, for the townspeople, and even for the quests!When creating a new character there is a new option to set the skin tone of your character. I've been wanting to get this in for a long time and it's the final big piece of character creation that I wanted to finish before leaving early access.There are currently nine choices. I'm thinking about adding a few more that might be Early Access Only. These would be more fantasy in nature, such as a gray Dwarf. Will have to see how it looks.New townspeople will also be created with different skin options as well. I have to say I'm really happy to finally get this in to HammerHelm and it really adds a lot to the look of the town and the Dwarves. Plus i get to check off another task related to the Roadmap towards Full Release! Existing saves cannot be automatically updated to use the new skin options system, however if you have a save you want me to update for you, I'm happy to do it. Instructions for this will be at the end of this update.In addition to the characters, the quest branching system is also complete so I can diversify the quests a bit more too! The first quest to use it is the Broken Sewers quest. Now when you get the Broken Sewers quest, sometimes it will be Ratmen, and other times it will be broken pipes. The broken pipes quest has you collecting the broken pieces, bringing them to the Stonemason for repair, and then putting them back. Now that the system is done, I can start doing this with other quests more easily too!This update also includes a fix for the long braided hair physics. It was set too high and looked like something invisible was holding up. Fixed version is on the right.And last, but not least, I have added a toggle to the Options Menu that allows you to turn off the torch flickering and monster flashing when they are hit.Updating Your Current SaveIf you'd like to have your townspeople and your character updated to have different skin tons, you can send me your save file and I'll update it for you. Simply let me know which skin tone you'd like for your character, numbered 1 through 9 using the top image with 1 being the top left and 9 being the bottom right. In Development - Paintings (New Early Access Rewards): Working on one of the Story Quests that involves helping a Dwarf create some paintings for their home gave me the idea to add paintings that you can hang in your house!The paintings are themed on HammerHelm's development over time, starting with it's 2D beginnings all the way up to upcoming new trees, water, and the new logo.(click to see full size image)The paintings have a nice watercolor look to them when you see them in game.
